We at Vadodara Design Academy intend to explore contemporary construction and structural knowledge of the students who volunteer to build design-relevant solutions.

These solutions not only cater to the immediate needs within the campus but range from rural to urban and emergency to rehabilitation; addressing the issues of sustainability, re-use, re-cycle and economy over efficiency.

VDA Campus serves as a lab to carry out experiments by involving local craftsmen, students and other inhabitants through a participatory process.

Developing a large span bamboo structure is one such experiment initiated to create a Workshop Space for enthusiasts in the campus. It is a hybrid kind of a truss system cantilevered from both the ends. The entire structure rests on columns which spring out from minimum points on the ground.

Prefabrication of components is carried out on-campus. It involves some logistics of man, material and machines in the process of making it on the site. The first prototype of the structure is already made and rest of the construction is in progress.

Carrying out such experiments in the VDA campus allows exchange of ideas and culture at both teaching and learning levels.
